Shiro Tajima

I was raised in Odawara Japan with Secret Boxes and Mosaic Boxes. When I was a boy, my grandfather bought me a Secret Box that took 4 ways to open. I was glad. But, more than that, I envied my big brother who was given one that takes 7 movements to open. I like products that we can hold in our hands. I'd like to make products that have unique motion, and ones that feel good to touch.

Uroboros	ＴＪ-20	This work was designed as a Christmas present for 2012. Uroboros is an ancient symbol of a serpent or dragon who eats his own tail, symbolizing self reflexivity. Dragon wing	ＴＪ-19	This work was designed as a Christmas present for 2011. In the pitch darkness of night you can hear the fearsome roar. The dragon spreads open both of its wings and will fly away at any moment. Is that it? Its stomach looks too heavy to fly. It's bound to fly some time in the big open sky. Reincarnation	ＴＪ-4-3	There was the work "Recycling Box" that was made 10 years ago. Craftsman wishes the revival from the big earthquake, and redesigned "Recycling Box" . The original work had dynamic moving in first way, but it opened simple style. TNK	TJ-18-2	This work has the same mechanism with TJ-18 Flemin'. This work's motif is "Raccoon dog". Raccoon dog is disguise as anything. It is disguise as the box "Flemin'", but it forgets to hide its tail away. 　 Created : 04/2011 Size : 65×65×65 mm Material : cherry, etc.

The magic hat	TJ-17	This work was designed as a Christmas present for 2010. The Baron Rabbit comes out from the magic hat. He came out without listening to what the magician said. The tiger of carboholic	TJ-16	This work was designed as a Christmas present for 2009. This work, 'Tiger' must be made from the Japanese raisin tree. The nose was made from the material which remained after the chin was made. Walnut modeled the design of the tiger. Sometimes troubling procedures need to be omitted. In last year's 'Dona Dona' some troublesome procedures were omitted.was omitted. But it produced an unexpected effect.　Everything didn't turn out smoothly. Dona Dona	TJ-15	This work was designed as a Christmas present for 2008. 2009 is the Year of the Ox, and this work was designed for that reason. There is a music box inside. Karakuri Sawing box	TJ-13	The theme of our exhibition was "Mother's Day". So, two trick boxes, "Pincushion" and "Spool" were designed with also a case. Hoop	TJ-12	It was created as an Xmas Present for 2006. The appearance looks like a standard type pillbox. But, when you open it, it moves in unexpected ways. The designer gave priority to the "unexpected motion" rather than the inner space when he designed it. But, a little device was added in the final step to open it. Maybe it is easy to open. W-Z	TJ-8-1	You can transform the cube into two shapes, 4 patterns. The mechanism is unlocked, and you can always transform it freely. The space inside is small and the craftsman doesn’t recommend you to put it for practical use. He thinks that this work is a transformable object.
